Realizing your Dogs Basic Needs

Dog training gives you the opportunity to help your dog discover some of its basic needs including expectations, the need for exercise and how to interact properly in social settings.  After you have completed training, your dog will be able to respond in an appropriate manner when it tries to please its master.

The primary goal of your dog training experience is to teach the dog the correct behavior when there are other people around.  It also helps him to learn how to be the companion that you have always wanted.  You will teach the dog the correct method of performing certain tasks as well.

There are some training methods that encourage punishing the dog for improper behavior, but most of these methods are not desirable.  It is better to use negative reinforcement (such as withholding a treat for bad behavior), so that the dog knows that there are consequences to his actions, and so he doesn’t have to fear you.

It is also important to reward your dog when he does do something right, and something as simple as a dog treat is sufficient.  These rewards can be very helpful in teaching your dog the basics such as sit, stay, and heel.

In essence, if you realize that your dog is a social animal, and if he isn’t trained properly, you will run into problems in the future.  So, you should make sure follow a good regimen when it comes to training him and you will have a faithful and well behaved companion for years to come.
